UAE: Grace period for changing unlimited job contracts extended
The deadline for the transfer of employment contracts between employees and employers, as mandated by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), has been extended from February 1, 2023 to 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟯𝟭, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯. This transfer involves converting indefinite-term contracts to fixed-term contracts.

The private sector in the United Arab Emirates must convert all employment contracts from unlimited to limited term by February 1, 2023, to comply with new labor laws.
Exemptions apply to employers in the Abu Dhabi Global Market and Dubai International Financial free zones, as well as those employing domestic workers.
The Cabinet of the UAE will allow contracts of any duration, as long as they are mutually agreed upon by employer and employee. Employers should review and amend their contracts to avoid fines or sanctions.
